The Norwood community as defined by Healthy Alberta Communities consists of 11 distinct neighborhoods: Alberta Avenue, Boyle Street, Central McDougall, Cromdale, Delton, Eastwood, Elmwood Park, Parkdale, McCauley, Spruce Avenue, and Westwood. The total population for the area is 39,689. (City of Edmonton Census, 2005). The rationale for establishing the Edmonton HAC boundaries is based on the service areas of the agencies and organizations that exist in the area. This area of Edmonton is a mature area with a history dating back over 100 years. It has experienced periods of growth and recession during those years.

Norwood/North Central Edmonton is a very dynamic area and is experiencing a resurgence of activities and investment including the revitalization projects along Alberta Avenue and Downtown East Edmonton.

Adding to the dynamic rhythm of the area is a strong immigrant presence that is supported by organizations such as the Multicultural Health Brokers Co-op and Action for Healthy Communities.

Other important organizations within the area of the 11 community leagues are the Boyle McCauley News, Rat Creek Press, Norwood Neightbourhood Association, Norwood Child and Family Resource Centre, Bent Arrow Parent Link Centre and the City Centre Education Project.
